Nifco Inc. (Headquarters: Yokosuka City, Kanagawa Pref., President: Masaharu Shibao, hereinafter “Nifco”) has developed a fastener (Brush clip) made of biodegradable plastic, which will appear in Takenaka Corporation's “Foresting Architecture” at the 2025 Osaka-Kansai Japan Expo.

Biodegradable plastic fastener (Brush clip)
Brush clips, a type of plastic fastener, are mainly used to fasten two objects together, such as panels. They can be installed in one motion, have a wide range of thickness tolerance, and can accommodate small diameter holes.
The brush clips developed by Nifco are made from a blend of cellulose derived from inedible plants and cellulose acetate obtained from acetic acid. As a result, they emit less CO2 during production process than brush clips made from other materials, and after use they are decomposed into water and carbon dioxide, returning to nature.
These biodegradable plastic brush clips will be used for fastening the pavilion framework and exterior materials in Takenaka Corporation's “Foresting Architecture” at the Osaka-Kansai Japan Expo held in 2025. The clips are longer than standard products (with greater plate thickness absorption) in order to firmly fasten exterior materials to thick structural materials.
