Nifco Inc. (Headquarters: Yokosuka City, Kanagawa Pref., President: Masaharu Shibao, hereinafter “Nifco”) has commercialized and started mass production of the electromagnetic wave absorbing panels which are compatible with millimeter wave radar.
Recently, advanced safety devices have been installed in many automobiles, contributing to the reduction of traffic accidents. In the future, with the shift to automated driving, the number of advanced safety equipment installed in the vehicles is expected to increase further.
The millimeter wave radar, one of the advanced safety devices, emits electromagnetic waves to the surrounding area and enables the detection of target vehicles and people. However, if there is an unnecessary metal reflective object within the irradiation range, the reflected waves will become noise and cause false detection of objects other than the target, which can affect safe driving.
In recent years, as the performance of millimeter wave radar has improved, there have been many cases where high-frequency electromagnetic waves have been reflected inside bumpers and become noise, causing malfunctions, thus there is a growing need for electromagnetic noise countermeasures.
To address this issue, Nifco has approached from both the perspectives of "material development" and "shape optimization" as a countermeasure against millimeter-wave radar noise and has now commercialized an electromagnetic wave absorbing panel with high electromagnetic wave absorption performance.
Furthermore, this electromagnetic wave absorbing panel has been proven to contribute to the realization of a noise-proof environment not only for in-vehicle applications, but also in the finished vehicle inspection process on automobile production lines and the aiming (millimeter-wave radar calibration) work at automobile repair shops, and has already been adopted by Toyota Auto Body Co., Ltd.'s automobile production lines and automobile repair shops.
